Sometimes people are unsure when it comes having reflexology in pregnancy. Here are some of the benefits why mums to be should have reflexology.

Reflexology is a safe, effective and deeply relaxing treatment that uses various manual techniques to access and affect the whole body through the feet.

This helps you feel comfortable, healthy and calm so that your body and mind are in a good state for birthing your baby. It offers you a great opportunity to take time out to nurture both yourself and your growing baby.

“If the mother has access to just one type of treatment during pregnancy, the best all-around treatment in pregnancy would be Reflexology.” Dr Gowri Motha, The Gentle Birth Method.

I have worked with many Mum’s to be and these are some of the ways that pregnancy reflexology can help.

Fatigue

This is especially noticed in first and third trimesters and reflexology can provide deep relaxation, relieve stress and improve sleep, which helps that exhausted feeling.

Improved Elimination

Pregnancy hormones and a growing baby can slow down and upset digestion and increase water retention. Reflexology can help the body to move things along relieving constipation and bloating as well as reducing swollen legs and ankles.

Relieving muscle aches and pains

This is common in pregnancy with pains such as neck and shoulder pain, back ache, sciatica and pelvic girdle pain. As your feet and legs get tired reflexology can also help revive your legs and prevent issues such as plantar fasciitis.

Regular reflexology during pregnancy has shown to promote timely labour and reduce the need for medical induction. It has also been shown that with regular treatments, labour outcomes are much better than average with fewer instrumental deliveries and caesarean births. (See research here).
