What is Reiki?

Reiki, which hails from Japan, is a wonderfully relaxing complementary therapy to promote stress relief and relaxation in mind, body and spirit.

Reiki is all about channelling the positive energy around us. Rei means “universal life” whilst Ki means “energy”, thus Reiki is the universal life force energy that makes up all living things.

When we are feeling out of sorts, either emotionally, mentally or physically, it means our life force energy is depleted.  Having a Reiki treatment will help promote your healing within.

What can I expect during a session?

During a Reiki treatment you will remain fully clothed whilst lying down or remaining seated. Our therapist, Karen, will either gently lay her hands on you, or hold them just above you, channelling Reiki energy.

The experience of Reiki is subjective, changeable and sometimes seemingly very subtle. People often feel heat in the therapist’s hands, but sometimes the therapist’s hands can also seem refreshingly cool. Other common experiences are subtle pulsations in the areas where the therapist’s hands are placed or cascading waves of pulsations throughout the body. Some people fall into a deep, sleep-like meditative state.

Sometimes the effect of Reiki is dramatic, with people experiencing remarkable relief from physical pain or release of long-standing negative emotions. For others, the first session in particular may be uneventful, although they somehow feel better afterward. The effects of Reiki are ongoing, with people often noting an unexplained ‘shift’ in their life some weeks or even months later.

The most common experience is an almost immediate release of stress and a feeling of deep relaxation.

A session lasts around 40-60 minutes.  To book a Reiki treatment, click here.
